White Cake - originally posted May 4, 2018

In my opinion, the only reason to eat white cake is as a vehicle for something else.
I accidentally bought strawberries.  The next day I had strawberries in my fridge and I wondered what to do with them.  That's when I had the idea to slice them, marinate them in a little grand mariner and sugar and  serve them over some white cake.

So I found this recipe;
  • 1-1/2 cup Flour
  • 3 Tablespoons Cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1/2 cup Butter, Softened
  • 1-1/2 cup Sugar
  • 3 whole Large Eggs
  • 1/2 cup Sour Cream
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
Sift together flour, salt, baking soda, and corn starch.
Cream butter with the sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well each time. Add sour cream and vanilla and mix until combined. Add sifted dry ingredients and mix on low speed until just barely combined.
Pour into greased 9 x 13 cake pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 to 50 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Remove from cake pan as soon as you pull it out of the oven, and place on a cooling rack and allow it to cool completely.It would be great under chocolate sauce, any kind of fruit compote...use your imagination.
